Sportrak Tyres and Wheels

Forum:

Hi All,

My sporty is getting used off-road a bit more these days and she doesn't really have the right footwear for it - she's running on road-tyres and is sliding around all over the place on the muddy stuff!

Fortunately, a few friends have kitted out landies so pull me out whenever I get into the sticky stuff!

Any chance of you guys letting me know what will go as standard on my wheels?

Currently there is 225/70 R15's on there but I'd like to put some larger profile on to get a little lift and preferably some Grizzly claws or something to keep me gripping off-road.

There's a pic of here below, hopefully someone will know if these are the standard wheels or not as well!

The pic's on a local greenlane - it's nice and solid underfoot so only a minimal chance of getting stuck! Smile

Thanks All,
Adam

New Tyres

Hi

I have 2 Sportraks one is on HANKOOK AT 15x225 and it stick very well, no lift or anything the other is on Dueallers same size but useless other than on Tarmac.

Increasing the profile with naff up you ratio's and speedo reading.

The sacrifice on AT tyres is that they tend to be a bit rough/noisy on the road wheras the Duellers are good and quiet on the road, really depends what you want.

I know ther are lots on this forum whoi can advise you on lift so I will leave it to those who havve done it to comment. My feeling is that stability on Tarmac may be a problem if you lift too high.

As a LAndrover Owner in the past the tyres on those are noisy, and with age harden and become pretty lethal on wet tarmac. I nearly took a BMW out on the OLd Kent Road in an old Series 3 as it just slid. Tyres looked Perfect!! just too hard for the road.

Thanks for your reply - I'm

Thanks for your reply - I'm not too worried about a bit of noise and roughness on-road to improve the handling in the sticky stuff so the HANKOOK's seem like a good bet.

I remember running a set of Hankooks on an off-roading holiday in Wales with some friends a while back in a couple of landies, we did the Strata Florida and various other lanes up there and the tyres did pretty well.

Stability would be an issue for me as the girlfriend drives the car daily - I've got another car to use so she uses it to go shopping in and to her job. Hopefully someone else will be along with some info on lifting!

Good old Series Land Rovers! The Series 3 is a great beast - just a shame that the road tax laws changed so all the Series 3's on the road are liable for tax. Everyone I know ended up getting Series 2a's that were just before the cut off and changing the front ends for Series 3 front ends!

Oops, I'm chatting about the evil Land Rover here so I best keep quiet! Wink

That's just a quick pic I grabbed to show the wheels - are they the bog standard wheels that come with the Sporty?

I'll have to take her out and get some decent pics of her in some nice locations soon! Smile

tyres

i think your best bet is to buy a cheap set of sj wheels with tyres and bolt them on.

if its not road legal, and u want a bit of lift do what i did

u said your m8 mods landies

all lanfies run on 16 inch rims

the only 16 inch rims that will fit your dihatsu are either suzuki grand vitara 16" rims

or suzuki lj wheel rims

i did this and got some hellish grizaly tyres and fitted them to lj rims and then u got about 6 inch lift.

the only problem with this is that the front wheels catch on leafs when on full lock, but im making some wheel spacers so should sort that out.

my m8 bought some grizzaly claws for his sj the other day, it cost him £30 odd quid including fitting onto his rims.

if u are looking for some new 15" rims i have a few set around
