Shaving Mudguards

Forum:

Hey People,

I am thinking about shaving the excessively wide mudguards on my '98 Fourtrak to give it a sleeker look. From what I see they can be shaved just by unscrewing but then there will an alignment difference problem with the bumpers (do you picture what I am talking about?). Has it been done before by somebody here? Can you tell me the pros and the cons?
Thanks again.
Anyone...?

Do you mean wheel arch

Do you mean wheel arch extentions / spatz, or mud flaps? If you mean spatz, then they do unbolt, but quite offten hid some rot due to damp sitting behind the plastic, against the metal work. As foe meeting up with the bumperetts, there are diffrent width moldings for diffrent wheel arch widthes. Breakers yard? e-bay maybe?

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Not gonna take those spatz out!

Hey Nev,
Thank you for the insight about "rot due to damp". I was referring to those wheel arch extensions / spatz indeed. I think I'll leave them be. And if I ever do want to take them off, I'll look into a diferrent molding.
Thank you very much.
