Forum:
Hello Everybody!
I have today become the proud owner of my first Fourtrak! Yippee.
Now I've got to start getting it all straight. First things first: Doorlocks and tyres. I will want to run it on Svo, probably with a two tank system. Are there any owners or forum members in Kent?

tbh at this moment in time i would not waste my time with svo, you will never save money untill the cost of it dramatically decreases

Cheers Guys! I should have said wvo, I get it from my chippies. The old wagon drives great!

My project is progressing. I have just made myself a heater coil for the fuel filter and also incorporated a heat exchanger in the fuel line. After about five minutes the vegoil is lovely and hot now. It runs like a dream.

Dover. Do you still need a passport to get off the island? Have a look at this club sight: http://offroadeurope.proboards107.com/ They are the local off road club. Several members (inc. the tresurer) are from your island. Club meetings are the first Wednesday of every month. Next green laning day is the 19th. Might be going myself.

It's the rest of the world
It's the rest of the world wanting to get onto the Island now, thanks Boris. I've never been greenlaning or done any off-roading before. Might give it a try with a mate of mine.
SVO and the fourtrak
With regards to SVO it depends what you after.
If its just for cost saving then I would say that running SVO is no longer viable, a few years ago maybe but really at around an average of £1.12 per/ltr its just not. The cheapest I have found from supermarkets is at Ocado at 98p/ltr.
However if its for environmental reasons then biodiesel from WVO is the way to go. Now there is a whole lot of debate going on in various threads here about the benefits/ mechanical issues/ dangers and they're worth checking out. These threads cover alot of ground and you can get yourself up to speed with all aspects involved with veg oil and the 'trak. check out 'the inevitable is happening thread' as well.
I have been doing quite alot of my own research lately and to me biodiesel from WVO is the way to go as its cheaper than dino and much better for the enviroment, safe for an unmodded engine and above all safer for you compared to home production. I have found a couple of good sites lisitng local suppliers of biodiesel: www.biodieselfillingstations.co.uk and www.biofuelplanet.com and the benefits of running this verus dino diesel for the environment are huge.
If your looking into home production then the Fuel pods by Green Energy at www.greenfuels.co.uk seem to be excellent and they will pay for themselseves after about a year and you'll be alot safer than doing a Heath Hobinson bodge job in the garage.
Otherwise it looks like up to a 50/50 mix of SVO to derv is possible without modding but only with greater maintenance of the fuel system and the injectors. At the 50/50 mix don't expect the 'trak to start from cold so well (as you probably know). Ultimately I believe mixing is not this best long term solution because it will shortern the life of the engine. It will run though and if you don't care too much about preserving the lifespan of the 'trak then go for it. But as many have said any savings made here will probably be absorbed by engine maintenance costs in the long run.
If i think of anything else I'll post it, hope that's a help.

my local main street garage
my local main street garage fuel is £1.17 a ltr, local asda is selling cheapest svo at £1.19, i have run on both inc mixing to 50/50 without a problem, its just not viable any more to do so, plus asda is further away than the dino seller, add to that all the plastic bottles you get svo in poluting the enviroment both making them and disposing of them and it makes you wonder if svo is really enviromentally friendly
