Help - no owners manual! 1998 Terios auto

Forum:

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here and a newbie to Jap cars in general. We bought a 1998 grey import Terios 1.3 auto, and since everything is in friggin Japanese, I cannot make heads or tails of some stuff.

There is a switch on the dash which activates the 4WD. Pushing it I get a green light in the dash, showing a cross over the centre diff. Would that mean that 4WD is engaged or disengaged? I think I would be best driving with it disengaged to get better fuel consumption and less tyre wear.

Is there anywhere I can get hold of an owners manual for an auto?

Any help would be appreciated!

Many thanks

Mark

Its the diff lock

The Terios is full-time 4WD - very handy in the wet and snow. The green light is the centre-diff lock, and gives you quite a lot of extra traction. But don't use it except where the wheels can slip - if you do, you'll put a lot of strain on the driveshafts and also wear the tyres very quickly.

So should I drive it with

So should I drive it with the green light on or off?
Sorry if this sounds stupid, but a locked diff can screw your driveshafts very easily and I don't want the missus to get a nasty surprise!
