In the need of a Steering tie-rod

Forum:

Hi there,
I am preparing my good old Fourtrack from 1985(Called Rocky in Denmark) dot the MOT and have bought all parts for the Steering and anti rooling system from Millner offroad. When I wanted to exchange the tie rod ends I found the the threads were wrong. When I removed the short tie-rod end it had left threads and the one I got from Millner had right threads and the other way around with the long tie-rod end. Since they have different diameters I cannot turn over the Steering tie-rod. Can anyone help me get the right Steering tie-rod and the two locking nuts.
Best regards,

Tied

No it is not wrong; the tie rod has a left hand thread at one end, and a right hand thread on the other, the ball joints also have left and right hand threads.
Check these again and ensure the left hand threaded end is fitted to a left hand ball joint and vice-versa.

The idea is to allow the tracking to be adjusted, if it had the same threads on both ends it would simply screw one end in and the other out, thus not adjusting the tracking.

Steering tie-rod

Hi there,
My problem is that my car is left steering car and therefore I need an UK Stering tie rod, in order to make it fit.
I wood appreciate to be able to get a used one.

I'm guessing you want one

I'm guessing you want one end for the link from one wheel to the other wheel, and one end for the link from there to the stearing box? Hence the diffrent diameters? Could the problem be becouse you have forgotten that UK cars are right hand drive? Therefor all stearing compenents are the wrong way round (from your perspective). Maybe you need to order the ends for 'the wrong end' of your linkages? Just a thought.

Are you sure you need a UK

Are you sure you need a UK rod? Shouldn't you just need to fit the parts you have to the "wrong" ends? A UK rod would be the wronge way around, wouldn't it? Thinking about it, they shouldn't be diffrent. It's only which way around they are mounted that is diffrent, which comes back to ordering the parts for the opposit end to the one you actually want.

Need the Steering tie-rod and locking nuts, UK version. Desperat

Hi there,
I have now tried to contact breakeyard.com without luck. It cannot be true that it is impossible to get a used Steering tie-rod with locking nuts in UK :-(. Can somebody help me please. MOT is in 3 weeks, last warning. All I need is the UK version of the Tie-rod itself with locking nuts, I have the tie-rod ends for both sides together with the anti rolling kit, all UK parts.
Best regards,
The Viking.
