F50 Injection Timing

Forum:

Hi

I have a F50 engine fitted to a series landrover.

I think the injection timing is off after removing and replacing the pump although I tried to put it back as I found it I may have put it out.

is there any easy way to check the timing Unknw I've tried but can't find a manual for this early engine, anyone know where i can get a manual or can give instructions for resetting the timing Unknw

Regards

Paul

If memory serves (and this

If memory serves (and this is a long time ago now)...
Take out no. 1 injecter, and set piston one to TDC (Top Dead Center). Replace injecter with injection pipe losely fitted. Crack injection pump mounting bolts so pump can be rotated. Pump the hand primer (located on the left side of the lift pump, when viewed from the front of the engine). You need to move the injuection pump about until you get fuel out of the no. 1 injection line, then back the pump off again until fuel stops coming.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Hi Thank you for your

Hi

Thank you for your reply, this is quite different from usually methods, will fuel come out the high pressure side of the pump (injector side )without cranking the engine just by working the lift pump?

Number one cylinder is the one closestto the radiator Unknw

With Thanks

Yes it should. And yes it

I have a engine manual for

I have a engine manual for the Delta truck that used the same engine, basically the procedure that Nev K describes is how the manual tells you to do it although his version is a lot clearer and more concise as I think the translation in the manual leaves something to be desired.

The intructions in the workshop manual for correcting the injection timing are as follows,
'11. If the injection timing should be incorrect adjust it following the procedure given below: (1) Line up to the pointer the crankshaft pulley side mark (for 17 degrees B.T.D.C.). (2) In case the injection timing is too advanced, move the pump proper toward the cylinder block side. Whereas, in case the injection timing is too retarded, move the pump proper toward the reverse side. While thus moving the pump proper operate the priming pump and secure the pump at the position such that the fuel has stopped flowing. (3) Recheck the injection timing following the procedure as given in 10.

12. After injection timing has been completey mated regularly tighten the injection pump. Return the delivery spring to the original position and tighten up the delivery valve holder.'

It also lists tigthening torques for the injection pump assembly and the delivery valve holder, these are 2.0 to 3.0 kg.m and 2.5 to 3.5 kg.m respectively.

The manual I have is a bound photocopy if you want to send me a pm with your email address I could try scanning it and emailing over to you.
