hi my power steering is leaking where the steering shaft from the steering wheel meets the pump can this be fixed or do i need a new pump

It will be worn input seals, these can be a problem on older vehicles due to deterioration, forget a new pump as they are bloody expensive.
Go for a reconditioned unit, you can simply remove one and replace it with another reconditioned unit, forget secondhand units; these can produce similar problems in a very short time.
