To try and help you out. Look at your compliance plate on the firewall(bulkhead) it will give the model designation eg. F70, F75, F85 ect. If its a Fxx, (xx is greater than 50) then its the same as an Australian Rocky, or UK Fourtrak, or South African Rugger, or Indonesian Taft, and in some places the same body style was sold as a Toyota Blizzard (I have seen at least one of these "grey imports" here in Australia). These Rocky/Fourtrak/Ruggers came into Australia in SWB all steel roof (F70), LWB raised Resin roof (F75), and Utility (F77) models. There is also SWB soft top models (F70) and LWB soft top (F75) neither of which I think came into Australia. I have also seen pics of a LWB all steel roof version that was sold as the Taft in Indonesia. To top all of that off, the model designations were further broken down depending on what engine was fitted, and what level of trim was also fitted. So, it is possible to have a model designation such as F75RV-MBDTQ, which is actually what mine is. 75 means LWB fitted with DL diesel engine, R means right hand drive, V means hard top, M means 5 speed, B means resin top, D means DX trim specification, T means turbocharged, Q means Australian market.ShockedShok

The Australian Feroza, (model designation F300, I think) is named the Sportrak in the UK, and the Rocky in the USA, just to confuse things. I would assume it was inported to NZ, but as to what it was called, I am unsure.

Earlier Daihatsus imported into Australia bore model designations such as F10, F20, and F50 and were called Scats. These were small 4wd's very similar in size to Suzuki Sierras (Samuri, or Sidekick) To confuse the issue even further, Toyota released some of the later F50 Scats here in Australia under the name Toyota Blizzard.

This is probably way way more information than what you wanted, but it might be of interest to others on the site.

Cheers

Rocky by another name

Rocky Feroza, also known as The Fourtrack in the UK, Rugger in New Zealand. Was also named Toyota Blizzard Feroza were petrol motors and were also smaller than the Rocky\ Fourtrack \ Rugger, from what I can gather off the net it was only the latter 3 models that had the Turb Diesol engines.

A popular vehicle especially in the UK, in Australia they were fully imported in the Rocky. Selling for around the $35,000.00 AU mark with the 93 model that I own. I have all the original receipts from the first and primary owner, a couple in Mildura who travelled north every winter with the 17' caravan.

I am more than satisfied with the rocky, has 203.00 klms on the clock. Hasn't cost me much but am about to have the steering box reconditioned due to a leaking inner seal. And have to do a minor repair to the rear drivers side wheel extension, thanks to some bozo who decided to modify it for me. I replaced the glow plugs recently at the same time as the battery died, and will be replacing tyres after I return from the UK and Ukraine in August September this year.

I am considering a minor lift maybe 1", so I can put on bigger 31" tyres, at this stage looks like I will go with Perelli Scorpions or Micky Thompsons. I don't get off road as much as I would like but when I do I want to get back as well, I love the bush and love taking lots of photos where not many people get to go unless they own a 4wd.

A very underrated vehicle here, the early models had a habit of falling over, hence the release of the Wide Track with improved suspension and handling on road. Not a lot of Rocky's but heaps of Ferozas, for example there are 29 Ferozas for sale across Aus on Drive.com and 2 Rockys.

Some owners have been known to remove sway bars for better off road capabilities, but this makes for terrible handling on the black top. Good ones hard to come by second hand, maybe because of price here in Aus when they were new, and owners adverse to parting with theres.

I have considered many times buying one of the 'larger' 4wheelers, but they cost an arm and a leg to run, whereas the rocky is not that expensive and having more than adequate 4wd abilities. And easy to park when in the burbs or at the shops. Interestingly my stepson saw a couple on a recent visit to Japan with his work, they have stringent testing on all vehicles in Japan so there aren't many older vehicles on the roads over there.

New Zealand gets a lot of Japanese cars that don't come here to Aus, I noticed heaps in April when my wife and I went over there for a wedding in Palmerston North. A great place to drive, with the motorways and heaps to see. One car we saw was something called the Nissan Cube, and cube it was it looked like a dice on wheels.

Cheers RockyDownunder in Aus.
