right ive blown 2 head gaskets in my sportys only when im off roading i now its the sportys biggest weakness otherwise i love them except the ifs at the front anyway is it possible to put a small deisel engine in which would mate straight to the gear box im thinking of a 1.7 vauxaul engine its got to be possible or would you run into a lot of problems up a head

My preferred choice is the Renault 2.1 normally aspirated diesel, these were fitted to many Renault and Citroen models and produce 110BHP.
These units sit vertically and are easliy installed, but the final drive in the transfer case needs altering to correct the gearing. These are reliable engines, and modern derivatives are still manufactured, thus parts are readily and cheaply available.
