1986 Daihatsu Rocky

Forum:

ok so long story short we really stuffed up. I have a Daihatsu Rocky with the 3y carby engine. changed the rotor and the thing that sits under the rotor (points/contact) under the dizzy cap... i think we mixed the leads up. from this forum, i found the firing order should be 1-3-4-2 so i wind the enging so cylinder 1 is up the top, i put the spark plug lead onto the dizzy cap where i notice the rotor will connect with next and then 3-4-2 in clockwise order. all that happens is occasionally it sounds like it sparks 1 cylinder but makes a pof sound rather then the car starting so i think it's sparking while enterting the exhaust. other then it's just the starter motor winding everything. PLEASE HELP ME!

Sound like you have the

Sound like you have the dizzy 180 deg out.

Pull the dizzy cap off, and wind the motor over till the rotor points to #1 position. Now pull the dizzy out, and turn the rotor 180 degrees, then replace. This should get you running.

Remember, No 1 piston may be top dead centre, but it is in this position twice in the whole cycle, once between the exhaust and intake strokes (which is where yours sounds like it is) and the second time between the compression and power strokes (which is where it is supposed to be)

Or maybe easier put the #1 lead where you now have the #4 lead is now, and follow on from there.

Cheers
Bundy
