Sportrak - End of days?

Forum:

Hi everyone,

been reading this forum a while and it is full of helpful, good-willed advice. Cheers!

I'm a first time Sportrak owner (1991, 1.6) which has failed its MOT.

I'm wondering if you all think it is worth getting my car fixed up and if you can recommend a decent mechanic in London if so.

It has failed the MOT on:

1- OS rear leaf - fractured

2- NS lower suspension ball joint - excessive play

3- NS front anti-roll bar linkage insecure

4- NS front CV joint gaiter split

5- Front brakes imbalanced (only just!)

6- afew lamps.

The places I've called so far have quoted £7-800 inc labour and sounds like they will replace all the parts rather than repair.

I've contacted a couple of second hand parts dealers to see if I can get hold of the parts cheaper, still waiting for reply.

Completely fallen in love with my Sportrak in our 4 short months, so don't want to let it go. I just plain can't afford £800 to keep it running.

Many thanks for any help with this,

Jon

All the parts you have

All the parts you have stated would need to be replaced with new parts, except maybe the leaf spring. Though new would be better, and both should be done at once. The only way to do it cheaper is the do it yourself.
