limited slip diff

Forum:

Does a fourtrak tds fieldman have a rear limited slip diff?

ha ha ha

They dont exist lol, nah if your the luckiest person in the whole of fourtrak ownership in the uk to own one then well done and ill buy it off you, lsd's were built once upon a long time ago for various markets, you on occasion hear of aftermarket ones, but basically - NO!! to tell if you have one, jack up a wheel and spin it and spin it and spin it if it stops spinning then either yes you have an lsd or you have the handbrake on or the brakes are rubbing and finally if none of the above a knackered 'open' diff lol.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

I'd agree that it's prob a no. To check jack up both rear wheels. Leave car in gear so prop can't turn. Spin one wheel. If open diff, the other will spin in the opposit direction to the one you spun. A limited Slip will couse the opposit wheel to spin the same direction as the one you spun.

Your vehicle may be fitted with a Locking diff, but it is very unlikely as they were not fitted as standard or offered as accessories by Daihatsu in Europe.

If it is fitted with a locking diff it will be a specially manufactured component and activated by either compressed air or electrically. This means a compressor mounted under the bonnet, or a switch on the dash, or both.
Check the axles for signs of an air line or wiring entering the axle around the diff area, this will be pretty conclusive in confirming a Locking diff.

If nothing, no lockers.
