pulling to the left

Forum:

Hi new to the site so any help would be most gratefull ,
my 1990 sportrak has failed the mot on the brakes pulling to the left under braking ,i have had the brakes looked at and the discs and pads all ok ,it has been sitting for about 7 months with the odd trip out but not many miles. i have been told its a sticking piston in the caliper ,i have tryed driving at speed and slamming brakes on but no good ,can it be repaired or is it a new caliper needed . thank you

It will be your right hand

It will be your right hand caliper that is seized, not allowing it to apply when the brake pedal is pushed, so only the left applies, hence the pulling to the left.

Try this, get 2 G clamps, clamp the rubber brake line to the left front caliper, and the rear brakes, then press the brake pedal hard. This may dislodge the stuck piston. Remove the entire caliper from the axle, and refurbish it.

Bleed them first.

Before manhandling the brake pistons, try bleeding the brakes. There is a possibility that air could be in the system. It has stood for 7months so I would change the brake fluid because of the 7month holiday!
