side windows on fourtrak

Forum:

Has anyone removed and retro fitted one piece glass to fourtrak rear sliding windows. Is this an easy job with a competant glazier as a mate to cut and laminate the glass (!) Or is it best to try and source a new top with these type of windows or a van top?? The reason is its due for a respray in the not too distant future and the runners are a bit shot as i suspect most of this age to be!(it`s an E reg.)

windows

you will have to get it claryfied but i think you cut a hole in the panal 3-5 mil smaller than the window itself perzooming the window is in the rubber rest the bottem of rubber on frame and then squeez the window in around the frame with a screwdriver... and vwulla... a window in... a rocky (but please please please get it claryfied frist because as i said befor i am not shure)
hope this helps

Retro fit rear windows

Mudman,
Understand what you`re saying, i`ve fitted plenty of windows before and by the way you don`t ever use a screwdriver or pry them in!!. The way to do this is to run a strong string around the rubber prior to fitting the glass then pull to ease in the glass and yes there is is a knack to it!!
What i need to know is what sort of edge is left after the windows etc are taken out, perhaps i should have said this before, sorry,

If you remove the inside trim

If you remove the inside trim below the sliding windows you will get an idea of what you will be left with...ang on a tic and I will look in my manual....hmmm Its kinnda difficult to visualise from the illustrations whats left after removal of the 'frame' that holds the sliding windows. The glass is held in a 'frame'along with the runners... this is removable and comes out in one piece.

It does not look to diffucult to get it out...but you need to be aware of where the clips are that hold the trim and frame in place.
This is cleary illustrated in the manulal..if you dont have one I recommend buying one of Lurch or go to ebay..there are loads for sale at £5 (cd version)

I've got a whole new rear roo

I've got a whole new rear roof with original sliding windows still in it, if you're interested. Drop me a line on this sites internal mail.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
