Suspension lift

Forum:

Hi all, just a quick question. I have an 1998 F73 and, i do a bit of off roading/ green laning however am concerned about bottoming out. What is the best mod to go for to give the car a bit more height without affecting the body roll/ drivability too much as its an every day driver as well. How much would it cost and has anyone any pics of their own mods/ details of suppliers.
I am looking at fitting different wheels and tyres down the line as well but nothing to big.

Sticky Bottom

Hi and Welcome.

The lowest point is the diff cases, no matter what you do these will allways be the lowest points. Fit bigger tyres, example 31x10.50x15 , any bigger and you will have clearance problems, you will loose some steering lock, as these may rub on the chassis. Lots of post on site re longer shackels and body lifts along with spring over axle conversions, but at the end of the day the diff cases are the lowest point, as per tyre choice.

The greatest improvment is to get out and walk the section, check the depth of water and to take time to choose a route through, rather than plunging on regardless.

his is coil not leaf but you

his is coil not leaf but you are right about the diffs as well as the front suspension arms being the lowest point plus the cross member as well.
if you fit 31x10.50x15 tyres you will gaine 1" more diff/cross member clearance and all you have to do for this is take of your mud flaps, you could add a 2" spring lift and wind up the torsion bars on the front to match and that will help stop the front arms from digging in so much and will give you a better aproch/departure and breakover angle.
the only thig stoping you from fitting 33"+ tyres are the arches will need cutting as they will only just fit 32" tyres with some rubbing and you will need to adjust the steering stops to stop the tyres hitting the chassis on the front or you can do a big body lift to clear them but i dont recommend this

if you go for 31x10.50x15

if you go for 31x10.50x15 with a 2" suspension and longer rear break line that should see you right, cost wise
