Hi all,
i'm making my own snork and have a simple question, is there any reason why the pipework can't go though the bulkhead and out the slam panel below the windscreen?

Snorkel exit site

Hi.

Only reason I can think of , is of pipework affecting vision through the screen. Not having done this the mod seems simple to exit the bodywork through the side of the wing, as per all the images one sees of this modification.

Yes: it creates leaks into

Yes: it creates leaks into the vehicles interior over time, is more costly to do, and can create a rust trap in the bulkhead which will efectively write a vehicle off.

A better method is to go through the inner wing and install a 90 degree bens and exit through the top of the outer wing. This means no intrusions into the vehicle, simpler to do, and gives the same effect.

In addition it would be deemed illegal under current legislation as any bulkhead has to meet fire criteria. Any penetrations have to be shielded, this is usually sleeved grommets, to prevent any combustion fumes entering the vehicle. Any designed intrusion is tested to comply with these regulations at the time of final design stages.

Do you know it is actually illegal to carry petrol cans in a Fourtrak as they can only be carried in a saloon car or other vehicle with a sealed boot and solid metal bulkhead betwen the passenger compartment.

Most people do not, yet it is another variation of this legislation, this is due to fumes emissions.
