Wheels to fit 4Trak

Forum:

I have been told that Suzuki Grand Vitara rims will fit on a fourtrak. Is this true or would it cause trouble.

Have a look at this

Have a look at this page:

Also try putting 'vitara' or 'wheels' in site serce box, as this subject has been visited befor.

Also I don't know the enginearing ins and outs but Assasin (who does seem to) is adement that Suzuki wheels (though not sur if he meant SJ, rather than Vitara) are not man enough to carry a Fourtrak.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

It would cause trouble, they

It would cause trouble, they are simply not strong enough and many have snapped or cracked leading to accidents.

They are designed for a much lighter vehicle and do not meet the strength requirements of a much heavier vehicle.

There are also insurance implications if they are used on road, byways, or other areas where a vehicle must comply with the current legislation.

i not saying its right but i

i not saying its right but i have seen loads of fourtraks with suzuki wheels on so can you provied some back up the the strength issus, pics or a link would be good

Rims are stamped

If you look at a rim you can find its load bearing capacity (often found in lbs), what you have to take in mind is how the vehicle is used and where, what assassin is on about is a fourtrak has or can have a gross weight legally of getting on for nearly 6 ton a vitara lets face it cannnot, this is the difference in legality and insurance problems, that weight is put onto the ground somehow somewhere........ also search the site, lots of stuff about this already.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Very well put: In addition to

Very well put:

In addition to this there are other specific ratings such as lateral and angular structural loads, these are over and above normal road vehicles. As a 4X4 works at extreme angles the load is not placed directly downwards as they would normally be on a normal road vehicle. This is why they have a "point load" which in simple terms is the side load imposed on a certain point of the rim, this is usually the outer rim to flange.

In simple terms it is the wheels ability to perform at full weight at an angle such as travelling across a sideslope.

This said aftermarket rims for a Suzuki may be universal rims, they are made for a larger vehicle such as a Fourtrak or Suzuki. They are machined to their final offset to fit each vehicle, basically they are universal rims with the highest load rating foe each of the vehicles they might fit. This is why some aftermarket items are fine fitted to Fourtraks, others are not.

It is a nightmare more often than not, trying to find the ratings for a wheel across its working range. This is why it is not recommended to fit them unless you have the specific load data to hand. If you are involved in an accident your insurers may ask you to furnish such data.

If you cannot it is there get out clause as you are neglient and open to legal action from your insurers and injured parties.

6t?? you should only put

6t?? you should only put 140kg on the tow ball the rest of the 3500kg should be on the trailer.the fourtrak fully loaded should waigh 2510kg as its pay load is 676kg,yes its more than a suzuki but has any one prove of a wheel fail

Yes: The DfT have numerous

Yes:

The DfT have numerous examples, thats why its illegal unless the wheels are rated for the vehicles weight and operational conditions if it is a 4X4.

point me in the right

point me in the right direction as i have just been on the dft web site and done a search but still cant find any proof

Grand Vitara wheels

Hi
backspacing is around 13mm deeper on the Grand Vitara wheels which will bring them in closer to the chassis and reduce steering lock. I've run a set of steel Grand Vitara wheels for around 18 months now without issues but they are on 50mm custom spacers to restore the back spacing and add clearance for the larger tyres I run. I bought them as I already had 16" tyres and needed rims to fit. As there are now many more sizes of 15" tyre easily available it would be cheaper and easier to buy 15" tyres in the size you want and run your current wheels even if you still need to add spacers for clearance.
Best regards
Dave
