Sportrak Piston Rings

Forum:

Hi, i am going to be replacing the piston rings in my 1994 injection sportrak and was wondering if anyone had any helpfull tips/hints to make the job as smooth as possible. ie. should i take engine out or replace rings with engine still in. Any shared experiences would be helpful
Thanks

are you having it rebored as

are you having it rebored as well as needed a set of rings for mine and after contacting daihatsu dealer it turns out that there are 10 diffent types of rings same with big/small end bearings etc etc so make sure that its deffently the orignail engine as you could be chasing a needle in a haystack i just ended sourcing a cheap low milage sporty engine as it worked out to be a lot cheaper anyway

Not going to have re-bore,

Not going to have re-bore, engine is burning oil(blue smoke when driving) Valve stem seals have been replaced but did not solve the problem, done compression test and compression is ok, i have been informed by my mechanic that the problem is very likely to be oil rings on pistons. Already got the rings so going ahead with fitting them. Just out of interest where did you end up sourcing an engine. Cheers

Does the sportrak have a

Does the sportrak have a turbo? If the pistons come out of the top of the engine it should be fine, on my tractor (TEF20) you've got to push the piston out of the top, remove the gudgeon pin and the con comes out the bottom, a real pain!

ok as when i phoned to order

same as mine burnt oil like it was going out of fasion but when stripped the head it had burnt a valve out Sad looked at rebore so it was easy to get rings/pistions to fit but then the bearing prob arised so laughed that of not sure if they will come out the top but then you will have to take the head off as well as the sump anyway i would do a full bottom rebuild as your half way there anyway i got one off ebay
