I am not interested in going off road so will only need 4 wheel drive during the nexr bad winter.
To improve petrol consumpyion I have disconnected the drive shaft to the rear wheels.
Has anybody else done this? Does this mod have a detrimental effect on anything else?
I have to keep the diff lock in all the time.
Does anybody have any views?

It baffles me people always asking for assistance but never say what for!?!?! could be driving a mistubishi evo for all we know in which case no don't remove the prop.......

It will have no effect on consumption at all as the front prop is connected and disconnected in the transfer case. When the vehicle is in two wheel drive the front prop does not turn, so neither does the front axle.

the original post says he has disconnected the REAR axle - would that be right? So must be running in 4WD all the time with no drive to rear wheels!
Sounds crazy to me! Poinless to save fuel, just fit decent road tyres and be sure to have correct inflation pressure - oh and get off the throttle!
