Forum:
I have oil leaking into a rear hub and need to check/replace the oil seal(s)Replies to another post made it sound easy but the manual for the F77 (I guess the layout is similar) talks about needing special pullers etc. So before I get myself up a creek without a paddle, how sraightforward or otherwise is it to withdraw a halfshaft and change the seal. Sorry, I'm not that mechanically experienced, thanks for your patience.

maybe a little late in answering your post...but pulling the half shaft is easy...getting a new inner oil seal on is not so easy...
Yow will require some kind of puller to get the half shaft out...the simplest method would be to strip down the brake...then put a couple of wheel nuts back on their studs...attach a 40cm length of strong thick nylon cord to the wheel nuts to form a half loop....use a heavy short mallet and hit the loop hard...the shadt shoul pop out of the diff no problem.
There is a retainer holding the inner half shaft oil seal in its place...you need to grind the retainer off with an angle grinder..be careful not to damage the shaft itself.
Obtain a new retainer from Milner offroad as well as new oil seals...reliable copany and keen prices.
The new retainer will need to be heated up before being pressed onto the shaft after fitting a new seal...I had a workshop do this part when I replaced my seals...its not a bad job if you take your time...the manual takes you through this procedure from begining to end...check it out.
