Just bought this car... can anybody help me??

Forum:

Hi guys, wondering if any of you could help with this one?

please look at the picture that i uploadet, and tell me what model i have bought, cos honestly... i dont know.

I have heard that i can change the axels with a hiace? can anyone confirm that??

I really like this smale bugger, and want to upgrade it alot. the motor has only 70.000 km on the clock, and its nonturbo so the motor is to be consideret new.

but i want to put in really heavy duty shocks/springs, powerfull breaks, ballbearings if its possible, heavyduty axels, and wider could be fun!

I dont want to make this a monster, rise it 2 meters off the ground and a big v8.
I would like it to handle the nature good, and that it will handle a fair share of beating, a proper workhorse.
what are ur suggestions?? i would love to hear them!

Already on the drawingboard is:

Paintjob (sandcolour)
Winch
Diesel webasto
Rooflights and maybe a netbox
New Interior

I'm asuming it's a Diesel?

I'm asuming it's a Diesel? Don't think Daihatsu did a petrol version of the pick-up. Anyway if it's Diesel it's an F75 2.8. If it is Petrol its an F85 2ltr. These are the same designations as the standard bodied 4traks, the letters on the body plate (on the engine / pasenger compartment bulkhead) will denot body type.
I know some people have put Toyota axles on 4traks, and of course you can make enything fit with a plasma cutter, a welder and some inventive enginearing. Other members have mands on knowlage of doing this I belive.
To be honest though, are you sure you want to change them? Reason I ask is I'm not familier with the F75 pick-up, but I do know from experience that the earlier pick-up (F55) had just about the strongest running gear og anything about at the time. It was all uprated from the F50. Larger half-shafts, bigger breakes, stronger springs. Is the F75 pick-up similerly over-engineared?
As for the V8. a standard F75 will put up with a 3.9 EFi Rover lump in-definatly. This has been prooven in the past.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.

Thanks buddy

Yes its a 2.8 liter dieselm nonturbo. but i have sparepart car WITH turbo. but im not sure if i want that inn. sure ill get more hp an torgue, but will the motor last as long then? Im very happy for having a low km motor in my car, and really want to take good care of it!

Im very glad to hear that i have an overengineared pickup!! Smile can anyone confirm that??
If its as strong as you tell me, i will ofcourse not change a bit!

i have thought about mounting a snowplow to the front, a kevlar/plastic one from snoway.... has anybody inhere experience with this? and will the frame take the beatings that naturally comes by plowing??

interesting with the 3.9 efi motor Smile maybe ill try that on my sparepart car!! making a monster out of that!
but i need a diesel motor in my car, im a landscaper and contractor, i dont need speed, i need torgue and tuffness!!
diesel v8 for f75??

see ya soon!

If you want torque then stick

If you want torque then stick with the original engine, as for engine life, well maintained engines regularly exceed 500,000 miles with nothing more than routine maintenence. Fitting a snow plough is fine, the vehicle is rated for 3500 Kg towing capacity, with the chassis to match, basically its tough.

I would take a few precautions though, ensure the underside is cleaned and undersealed and the cavities treated for corrosion. Many people prefer Waxoyl or Dinitrol products, but locally available products are fine, you could even fire old enigne oil inside the chassis, cheap and effective.

Turbo?

Will a turbo on my motor not help torque?

My plan is to strip it down and get rid of all rust, and then treat it with som thick greasy stuff that will hold it rustfree for 500.000 miles.... (man i can have this car the rest of my life!!)

You say that this car is good for 3500 kg towing... but what about the breaks? will they take is?
Anybody got experience in upgrading the brake system? what will fitt??

Thanks for the reply mate, really good to get som info!!

Yes the turbo will help

Yes the turbo will help torque, so use this engine.

The brakes are designed for braking trailers up to 750Kg max which are unbraked, anything over this needs a braked trailer.
