1 1/2 body lift

Forum:

looking to lift my sportrak 37mm using sguare steel pipe, as mowerman did? my question is what size holes do i need to get drilled and what length of bolt and nut do i need, thanks in advance Ross

I took one of the bolts out

I took one of the bolts out from the floor near the drivers seat and used this as a pattern, I just got bolts a minimum of 50mm longer then the standard. I then drilled through the standard nuts so I could use the spacer sleeves through the rubber body mounts and put my longer bolts through, then added a nylock nut. This means you can use off the shelf nuts and bolts. However the problem lies with the rear 2 fixings, these are captive and there is no access to the nuts. These are effectively studs and I ended upmhaving a local machine shop make 2 bolts of the correct thread (M10 x 1.25) so i could simply bolt them In using the existing captive nuts. It may sound comex but when you get a bolt out all will be clear!

body lift bolts.

I got some 6 inch long regular m10 bolts, screwed the nuts on the threaded ends, welded them in place and then cut the original heads off the bolts making them the right new length that I wanted for the body lift. Then you could take the bolts to a machine shop that has the right size dies and ask them to rethread the bolts, threading each bolt about 30 mm down its length. I actually got an M10x1.25 die and stock from
'Tracy tools' and did the job myself. If I remember 2 of the original bolts I could re-use in a different location. There are 10 bolts in all, you have to unscrew the back studs with a mole wrench, or lock 2 nuts together to unscrew them.

my mate seems to reckon that

my mate seems to reckon that although the pitch of the bolt is different from his vitara, that that the kit on his vitara bar the fixings would do the sportrak? anyone ever fitted a non sportrak kit to theres? cheers ross

Hi mate
We used scaffold tube and didn't buy bolts but brought a lenght of threaded rod ,also the captive nuts where no problem as we drilled through the body above them and put a nut on the end job done
