Greetings drivers,
Lately I've been having transmission/transfer problems on my 98 TD SWB 4Trak and I have to replace them.
It's not easy to come across OEM parts for this car in this part of the world so I have to look into alternative replacements.
I've been offered a transmission and transfer off a car with a Toyota 3Y engine. The engine on 2.0 Petrol 4Traks, Toyota Hilux and others. I haven't seen the part yet but I believe it was imported from Japan off a 2.0P 4Trak version. Though I'm not sure.
Wanted to ask wether it would bolt straight on my engine or not.
I know the topic has been discussed on other posts before but I can't seem to find them right now.

Straight answer. I don't know. But... the 4trak gearbox is the same for both petrol and Diesel modles. The bell housing and input shaft have to be swaped over though. I hope this helps a little?
Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
Changed bearings
Decided to hold on the transfer swap. Gonna cost me a lot.
I had figured that the Petrol and Diesel transfers of the Trak are the same. But that I would need to swap input shat and bell housing.
The main problem I was having was that the transfer lever would pop off while driving at fairly high speed, from 2H to N, with a grind.
Replaced the bearings (needle bearings????) on the transfer lever (lever also had a lot of play) and seemed to fix the problem.....so far.

I haven't seen the part yet but I believe it was imported from Japan off a 2.0P 4Trak version. 70-685 Though I'm not sure. Wanted to ask wether it would bolt straight on my engine or not. I know the topic has been discussed on other posts before 70-663 but I can't seem to find them right now.
