Hijet loud clunking noise

Forum:

My Hijet is making an intermittent noise that's driving me mad! Please help.

It sounds like it's coming from the front left wheel, and gets faster and slower as with the speed I'm doing. It tends to start after I've been driving for a little while, sometimes getting so loud - a terrible, dramatic clunking that sounds like it's connected to the wheel's rotation - that I feel unsafe.

If I stop for a few minutes then start again it often (but not always) goes away! Because it is intermittent I have not been able to get a mechanic to hear it. I took it to the Daihatsu garage and they had a look at the hub and found nothing. They are reluctant to take the hub apart in case it 'falls apart' and they have to install a whole new one:

I doubt that the non-daihatsu

I doubt that the non-daihatsu pads caused the problem unless you have done something wrong whilst re-assembling everything?

As you have been to the dealer I guess a loose wheel is out of the question (you'll be amazed how many times this causes a problem.............)

Sounds like it is hub related if you say it's coming from the wheel. There is no CV joint (or is yours a 4wd?) so that can be ruled out and as you say it is speed related I doubt that it's a suspension component either.

Someone else here may be more specific. Good luck.

I'm guessing you've only had

I'm guessing you've only had this problem since changing the pads? If so, there has to be a connection. I reckon it's worth having a look at the pads - maybe remove them - to see if anything is loose or damaged. I've also known this caused (on other vehicles) by a stone caught in a metal guard round the disc - can't remember if the Hijet has this though.

Hijet Loud Clunking Noise

We had the same problem it was the bearings which we bought from Euro Car Parts. My hubby did the replacement with the help of a local garage who help him press out the old bearing.
The only thing was that we found a little afterwards that the stub axle was damaged through the play and it caused the castle nut to strip the thread on the stub axle.
So we ended up replacing the whole hub bought from Doncaster Motor Spares (aka Motorhog.co.uk.
It is probably better to replace the hub if you can get a hold of one ours cost
