Forum:
Hi,
A few months back I had a fuel leak on some badly corroded pipes. The chap at the garage replaced them with fuel hose but said he couldn't do the last few inches nearest the tank and said that if it leaked again he would need to drop the tank. Anyway - it's leaking from that last bit of rusty pipe now and I was wondering if it's a big job to drop the tank and if it really needs to be done
Thanks
It is not a big job in
It is not a big job in itself, but the bolts will be corroded and will certainly snap while trying to undo them. This means you will need to drill them out and retap the threads which makes it a much larger job.
One alternative id to soak the bolts and try to remove as many as you can, if they snap, drill and retap and replace with new. Once you have freed or replaced them, then remove the tank, it will be an easy job with most of the donkey work done.
With the tank dropped it is advisable to underseal around the metalwork which cannot be accessed with the tank in situ. It is also advisable to underseal the top of the tank as well.
Thanks - one more query :)
Thanks for that, Do you know if it's possible to get access to / replace the fuel pipes that go to the tank without removing it
