can anyone help, 1990 sportrak when switching lights from main beam to dip its dip dim only for about 3 seconds before the dipped beam comes on properly. battery terminals seem ok and full power from all lights so it does not seem like a poor earth!!! (possible light switch itself)? any ideas of where to look for this problem would be appreciated ,thanks,PAUL

Sportrak dipped beam

Hi Paul,

My '95 Sportrak has a slight delay of about 1 second when you switch the lights on, cant remember which comes on first tho, but sounds similar to yours. I've no idea what causes it tho, but i dont find it a problem so havnt bothered with it! I just assummed thats what they do!!

Some others on here may have some ideas, probably to do with Daihatsu's strange wiring!!

Regards,
Nat

lights

my 1990 fourtrak did the same, for about 1-2 secs, all off.

I guess it has something to do with relay and power change over.

Cheers

I don't know if the sporti is

I don't know if the sporti is the same, however the 4trak is pron to carbon bild up on the copper contacts in the switching mecanisum behind the stearing wheel. Take a look. For the 4trak you'd need to remove the stearing wheel. Slid the lighting/wiper control asembly off over the end of the stearing colum. The contacts are hiden under a plastic cover at the base of the lighting control stem. If the contacts are carboned up, clean them (sandpaper or such). For such overly complicated beasts in some areas, this is a very simple mecanical switching system.

As I said, I don't know if the sporti is the same as I never had to pull that bit to peices on the one I had. However I have done this to a P reg & B reg 4 trak, so who knows. It could be worth a gannder at any rate.

Good hunting.

Any veiws expresed in this thread by me are purely from my own experience, and (sometimes) falible memory. Hope my comments help, but please don't take them as gospel.
