Air con refilling details

Forum:

Hello All, can anyone tell me how much aircon gas to put in my 1998 fourtrak, as the sticker has gone from the slam panel, my dealer ain't got a clue. thanks

If the dealer has no clue,

If the dealer has no clue, then leave and get it done by someone who knows what they are doing, as these obviously don't.

The system should be vacuumed out, tested, and filled with the correct weight of LUBRICANT and GAS. Replacing the gas alone does nothing as the lubricant also needs replacing.

Avoid the gas kits from retailers, these are dangerous.

Go to a local professional who will have the correct information, and do the job properly. They should charge around £45-50 and give a warranty.

Cooled Cars

I had mine done by the above company and am very happy with it.

Not only did they change the oil and gas. (And he said looking at the oil he didn't think it had ever been serviced and it's 8 years old, and it was well short of gas) Sad

But he also put a green dye in it which shows up under UV light in case you ever get a leak.

Well worth the £50. Smile

aircon gas

I should have said, I work at an accident repair centre, and have a proper air con machine, and proper mechanics to do the job for me, but cannot find the data anywhere, autodata don't list anything under the fourtrak to do with aircon replenishing, on your invoice did it say how many grams they put in after emptying the system, or has your sticker gone as well. Thanks for the replies.

F78 Aircon

I've just checked ours which has aircon. Although there is a sticker advising the correct refrigerant and oil specs. there is no mention of how much. Nor is there any mention in the handbook.

I'm a little confused over the oil aspect. Is this added with the refrigerant or is it in a seperate reservoir somewhere? I had ours recharged last year by a small garage here in Spain who I doubt had ever seen another Trak and they managed without any problem.

There isn't one on my YRV

There isn't one on my YRV either, must be a daihatsu thing.......

I charged mine to a nearly full sight glass at 1500 RPM. Works perfectly. The only correct way is to weigh in the gas, as with any A/C system. As for the oil, this is to lubricate the compressor, and a smnall amount of oil travels around the gas which helps to keep the rubber parts from drying out and cracking. I personally didn't add any oil as I knew where mine was leaking, and it was a TINY leak and the was no oil residue at the site of the leak. If you add oil every time you re gas it you risk over filling it, as oil doesn't leak out whenever the gas does, especially on the low side (return side) of the system.
