Xenon headlights . . .

Forum:

Just got round to fitting my White Xenon effect headlights and LED sidelights I bought from Ebay.

The sidelights look great in white, but for some reason, the dipped healights look exactly the same yellow colour as the original bulbs gave off!!!! . . . The thing is, when I turn on my main beam headlights, they turn to Xenon effect! What's that all about??

Anyone got some words of wisdom?? Sad

Oh, if you haven't ever changed the headlights in a YRV, then I advise - DON'T! The offside bulb connector is impossible to get to unless you take the airbox off, etc . . . plus, it doesn't help when it's pitch black outside! Biggrin

hmmmm

Weird!! I would have thought the gas in the bulb denotes the colour etc etc and as there are 2 elements in the one bulb............are they decent bulbs i.e. a make or are they ebay cheapies??

Not had to change one yet, but I can see they are a pain to get to. Replacing the air con pipe was bad enough!!

They are cheapies from

They are cheapies from Fleebay to be fair, but I've bought cheap Xenon effect bulbs before and they've always been spot on. Hmmm . . .

As for the fitting of the main bulb on the offside, it's the gap you have that makes it difficult to get your arm in and ease the connector off the bulb. If you have the arms and hands of a 5 year old, you should be fine though! Biggrin

Wuss

What do you mean it's hard to change the light bulbs in the YRV? Wink Did both of mine, okay the drivers side can be a bit cumbersome, but maybe beacause I have a cone filter instead of the airbox. In terms of lights I can highly recommend the Ring Xenon bulbs I put in a couple of months back. Check out the Images-> Modifications to what I have done and used. The back lights on ours are the worst Sad

Blubs about bulbs

What make and type are they?

As Wayne says, it's weird. None of the uprated bulbs I've ever fitted to my YRV have displayed this characteristic.

The wiring to the bulbs is quite weedy. The standard bulbs would shine brighter (and blow sooner) if you get rid of the voltage drop introduced by the weedy wiring. You can do that by using a relay close to the bulbs and feeding them via that with a fused thick wired supply direct from the battery.
