YRV Turbo battery replacement?

Forum:

Hi,

I've seen a good offer for a replacement Bosch 4yr battery for the YRV turbo, and I want to replace my original battery as we have had the gearbox problems when cold/low battery in winter. The battery code is an S4 156 and says for the YRV. However the width dimensions for the battery are 237mm, but the YRV battery tray is only 200mm wide. Has any one fitted a new battery if so what did you get?

thanks.

I think I may have worked

I think I may have worked this out for myself. The bosch has a lip at the top and the image of the battery looks like the case is tappered. So I think the dimension is the max dimension, so the bottom should be smaller and hopefully fit. I'm going to order it, but if you know please let me know as it will take a few days as not currently in stock, so I have a bit of time to cancel.

I was looking at getting a

I was looking at getting a Bosch as the scooby owners over on scoobynet were Raving how good they are but couldn't find the right type for the YRV. In the end I opted for a Varta Blue 40amp to replace my ageing Varta Asia 40amp. By the way what ampage is the Bosch? And where are you getting it from? And don't say Tanya batteries, as I have had a bad experience with them Sad and cannot recommend. Appears they falsify there ratings Sad

Im hoping to fit it later today if I have time, will report back either way when its done.

im hoping this will cure the gearbox flashing D issue that comes up once or twice in winter when the weather is cold or damp. The current battery is the original which 8 years now!!

Nice find

That looks a good spec battery. 5 Ah more than the Varta.
Can you post up some pictures in the Modifications section?

If your D Light is flashing in the winter when it's damp/cold, maybe worth wrapping the connector that goes into the Auto-box with a bit of plastic as well. Smile

Yes, a good find! Going to

Yes, a good find! Going to order one myself to see if it cures my D4 problem. Got to be worth a try, although I deliberately drained the battery the other week and it JUST started and the D4 lamp did not flash...........

I wrapped my connector in tape, but it soon came off. It needs to be totally watertight otherwise damp/water will get in and stay in.

yes its too long but...

Yep, tried to fit it yesterday, and it is about 30mm too long, just as I suspected. The taper was no where near as much as it looked in the image. It will fit, but the problem is the battery tray is no big enough to hold it in place. I am thinking of fabricating a new tray or seeing if a different model has a larger one. I think this will be worth it as the amperage of this battery is better than the standard one. Its really annoying when suppliers list parts as suitable when they are not really.

If you want the correct size

from Daves comments on the correct one, using the eurocarparts site, you have to enter a vehicle to list the parts. If you enter a Daewoo Matiz this will show the 054. £5 cheaper so should be able to get this for £35! I need to decide whether to stick with the larger one, or get them to replace it with the 054....

As I said earlier I wouldn't

As I said earlier I wouldn't bother taping it up, it would need to be TOTALLY waterproof to have any benefit otherwise it will lead to more problems if water sits inside the tape. I tried it and it didn't work! The stuff Bob suggested would be better.
