Hijet orange eng light solved

Forum:

993 cc injection engine mini bus THIS MAY HELP OTHER WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM

Once the engine became warmed up the orange warning light would switch on for any length of time from 10 seconds to over a minute. I seem to have now solved the problem(s). I replaced one thing at a time.

Firstly the airfilter needed replacing; this reduced the number of occassion the light came on.

Secondly under the drivers seat attached to the from edge of the metal surround there is an electric switch that has 3 rubber pipes running to it. I do not know the name of the part, but having obtained another from a breakers yard, the orange light then only occassionally illuminated.

Finally the guy at the breakers yard suggested and then found another electrical vacuum switch. This is located under the plastic surround of the hand brake, it has one pipe running to it. Since replacing this I've not had any orange light switching on whilst the engine has been running.

I suspect that initially one of the faults occurred, then before I solved the first one a second also happened and it was just my fault that I had not checked to air filter that may have made the other faults more sensitive.

When the fault occurred I was able to keep the engine running by using the Toe and Heel technique. If I stopped the engine with the light on it would not start again until the engine to cooled for about 5 to 10 minutes, however with clutch depressed and accelerator almost fully depressed the engine would sometimes start after 8 to 10 seconds of turning on the starter motor.

I have had a recurring problem with the EMU light coming on and staying on whilst driving. Initially it seemed connected to braking but that was dismissed. On inspection I found that the air filter was dirty so that was replaced and did seem to solve the problem but it has started again to come on and further investigation is necessary.

This has been going on for some time and what I have noticed is that on damp days when the air is colder and more dense the light remains off. As soon as the weather warms up and the air thins, after a few miles the light comes on and remains on . It does not seem to affect performance and if I switch off and on again the light stays off for a few miles before coming on again.

I am now thinking Oxygen and Lamda but would welcome any suggestions.

Thanks
