Hello, Oh and I have a Sportrak fuel problem which was caused by me....

Forum:

Hi all,

As a new user of this site i'd like to introduce myself before jumping into how I came across the site, and why I need your help.
I'm Craig and I live in the Forest of Dean, I own a Sportrak as a bit of a play thing and due to the weather I though it best to redo my work and put the fuel system back together before the turn in climate.
Right, my car had a fuel leak, which was strong in the cabin. I removed the "very" rusted bolts from the tank and removed it to expect it to be leaking. It was fine and put in the boot. It has sat there for 6 months plus and a month ago I dragged it back into my unit and bolted it back in place, connected up the pipes and nothing. There are so many pipes which are confusing. Let me start with explaining what I have, and what I have done.
From the filler there are two pipes. These are idiot proof. One is a filler and one is a breathe that links back into the filler. There is ONE way these pipes go onto the tank. Now, there are two pipes leading from the tank to a plastic housing within the cabin. Are these important on to which point on the tank they go? There is a third pipe from here that leads to the front of the vehicle. There is a second pipe coming from the tank which leads to the front of the vehicle. Of these two I do not know which way round they fit, as there the same size pipe (6mm).
Last is the fuel pump feed, which leads to the front (obviously) and comes into the underside of a cylindrical unit which then as a pipe off the top leading to the injection rail. Fuel is coming out of here when cranked.

So, what is the black plastic housing in the rear quarter panel? Does it matter which way round the two (red) pipes feed the tank? Which pipe should be the return to the tank inlet from the front and why does it need two returns? (assuming they are both returns)?

Anymore info needed just ask, Thanks if you can help, and thanks for reading if you cannot!!

Craig

right...the plastic housing

right...the plastic housing is a fuel vapour catching breathing thingymabob gadget...forget the name, but more importantly...in a fuel tank you have an out to engine and a return for unused fuel, youve prob got these two the wrong way round as one feeds in the top and one sucks fuel from the bottom.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

Right, thanks for your help

Right, thanks for your help there.
I have it sorted.
It was one of three things, one possibility was the two red pipes from the vapour catching thingy were crossed going to the tank, the ECU needed resetting (it's got a knackered battery but last night it had no power at all, thus nothing to power the ECU) or the injector relay in the engine bay was sticky, as I pulled it and did the old tap three times.....
Anyway, it's now running and well considering it's been parked for 6 months plus!!

Thanks again.
