hi guys amongst other things that i am dealing with on my fourtrak there is now a clunk coming from the passenger side footwell?? it only seems to happen when i go forwards/backwards but its not the clutch, or gearbox im pretty sure of this, its only when i brake jerky or change gear jerky? its like somthings loose? ive looked for a day now and canny see out but it does sound seriouse.... any suggestions?

Torsion bars
Check the torsion bars - those big rubber grommets. I bet one has perished internally and the bar is knocking under pressure.
Is the exhaust loose and banging against the floor?

nope, its wangling around a fair old bit thpugh.... you can hit either side of the footwell... ?? explain to me where the torsion bars are?? i have a couple of rubber shock/gromets that have perrished too...

grr, ive re-placed the gasket being overly carefull in getting both faces clean, spent 4 hours cleaning the two faces, then left it 24 hours to be safe, filled her with oil and great for about 5 minuits then slight ooze from the left hand side! i was sooo fussy about how clean i got it too!!! grrrrr and i was so carefull not to overtighten the bolts... do you think that if i yoked them up a tad it would seal>>?? if not im going to say screw it and sent it to a garage! also the clunk hasnt gone away with tighting the exhaust up... im baffled and shattered and a little depressed that my gaskets STILL leaking...

theres nothing there around that footwell to clunk, sounds always seem like there from somewhere else, check the uj's n flanges associated with the prop shaft, if you can record it we can help, yours is an f75? isnt it??

yes mine is the F75, weve discovered more issues but cannot find this clunk, i shall check the UJs today, a random but infuriating subject.... how do i get the sump off??? ive tried whaching it with wood and prying off but to no avail its like someones glued the damn thing on!! i need it off as there is a few leaks around the edges, also my crank seal is gone but these leaks are def coming from the sump also.... i think that the owners gone by have spent tonnes of cash on expensive suspension and all the mod-cons but have neglected the very basics in car care.... shame really shes a lovely drive. i shall try and reccord it tommorow if it is still there....all depends on getting this sump off!!!

apart from hitting it hard
apart from hitting it hard with something soft and maybe trying to wedge something in to crack it off.....all bolts undone near the gearbox??

GOT IT LOL....
finally!!! haha, i weged a screwdriver between the two mating faces and chiseled along the line... finally then i got my pry bar and pryed it off!!! wow! dont think its ever been off in 20 years!, the gauze filter in the sump was really clean too, no bits of metal etc, well chuffed... just stripped all the old gasket off now and smothed down the pan face now to do the under side of the engine... one last question... whats the best way of putting the new gasket on? do i just put it on with a smearing of oil? or do i add gasket sealer aswell?

think weve found ur misterious clunk, EXHAUST. was loose and hitting the floor panel... wierd though as it wasent that loose! oh well....
