I don't think the sky will fall in. The MOT test is merely evolving to match the technology of new vehicles and filling in a few blanks that need sorting out.

I think theres several people on this site running incorrect bulbs, chipped tuned cars etc etc....result instant fail.

have read here and there that
have read here and there that "modifications" could fail, if that includes lifts,wheels, tyres ,winches ect ect then you might a bit more bothered, i know that certain euro countries dont allow anything other than type approved vehicles, that would bugger a lot of us right up- ok if your vehicle is 100% original!!

My bmw Alpina D3 is chipped,lowered 35 mm,
Fourtrak has been raised very slightly at the rear, front bullbar, winch on the front also, exhaust has only the rear silencer on it, not loud or anything, just a suttle exhaust rear silencer, got rock slide sider steps, spot lights on front bumper, was thinking of putting a light bar on it cause the lights are brutal, light bar will obviously only be used when needed and safe to do so like the spot lights,

I just m.ot`ed my Fourtrak on Saturday,
M.o.t`ed my BM at the start of the month also,
Both past no problems, couple of wee advisories on the Fourtrak which are nothing to be honest,
But the Bm has had a warning light on for about 6 months now,
Its the brake warning light, never changed the brake pads on time and the sensor made contact,
Brakes are replaced, sensor is replaced but I have to go to the dealer to get the fault removed, light switched off, only bmw can do this as they enter a code or some sh*t like that,
They want £ 40 just to plug diagnostic in, less than 2 minute job,

I've had a look at the proposals, and to be honest, I can't see anything that would cause me undue anxiety, or alarm. Surely, ignoring things like warning lights is just asking for trouble anyway?

Since about new the airbag fault light comes up when turned on, rover could never find the problem, air bag system apparently will work fine... End result then instant fail and worthless car.......believe me this will cause alot of unhappy drivers next year!!!!

I aggree ignoring warning
I aggree ignoring warning lights could be asking for trouble, especially if your not sure what the problem is,
But if you know what the problem is, and the problem has been sorted, then I dont see a problem,
Just that when dealer wants to rob you as they do, then I dont see a problem then,
Dont get me wrong, my warning light will get turned off through my dealer, but I dont see the big rush to get it done,

Most of what is becoming law is already covered by other aspects of an MOT, but more emphasis is being placed on them rather than letting them through as many testers now do. There is still the advisory which is any component which has around 5% of its remaining life left, so discretion will still be there.

No, thats just scaremongering, what they intend is to uprate the MOT system in line with the current vehicle technologies. many things such as safety systems will be tested to stop them being fitted and not working, and people taking warning light bulbs out of them.
If you have a suspension lift or chipped vehicle it will be fine if its done correctly, and meets emissions levels.
