gasket problen help needed to drain the radiator

Forum:

i really need help before i have to scrap my beloved terios

i need to drain the radiator as i have some steel seal to put in it to try fixing the gasket leak i have
i know this may not work but im not in a position to pay out 500 plus to get it done just yet

i have taken the jubilee clip off the bottom of the radiator but for the life of me i cant get the pipe off as it seems to be like 2 inched over the metal pipe
what am i doing wrong i thought simply removing the tube would be an easy job lol

Rad.

The hose gets firmly adhered to the connection. You have removed the clip and must now work loose the hose. Try a gently twist and pull. If that fails there is no alternative but to work a small flat screwdriver between the hose and the pipe to free the hose edge. Do not damage the metal pipe! Then try another twist and pull. Take care that the metal pipe does not break away from the radiator. [The top hose, energetic removal, usually results in a cracked weld between the pipe and radiator.]
Before progressing check the inner face of the radiator - engine side. Some radiators have a drain valve towards the bottom edge of the radiator. Again this could prove difficult to open - hence revert to pulling the hose since a new hose is cheaper than a broken drain valve and replacement radiator.

NB . If you drain the radiator always flush the engine and the radiator. Engine flush - stick the garden hose into the engine block. Rad flush -- stick the garden hose down the radiator cap. Also reverse the flush for each since a reverse flush is often good to remove blocked sediment.

If you need a new radiator do not buy from daihatsu. Take the radiator to a renovator such as motor-rads and get your radiator re-cored. Price will be about £100 and will be as good a a new radiator at a fraction of the price.

thanks for this i have been

thanks for this i have been told i dont need to flush just empty so i can put the steel seal in
im not a meachanic or know anything about cars but surely this must be an easy job lol halfords wanna charge me 70 quid for doing it and i cant find anyone near me in leeds who will do it for me cheaply lol

put some boiling water on the

i started to get the hose to

i started to get the hose to loosen then when i looked up it goes to a little radiator looking thing right next to the radiator near the front of the grill is this part of the radiator too?
im sorry i know im stupid but i cant afford a mechanic lol

I dont know terios

but that little looking radiator is an intercooler for the air, it creates cold air, making it dense, hold more oxygen, make bigger bang in engine, more power, that will have nothing to do with water but if its in the way then has to be removed.

Anti-freeze - a must !!!!

Julia.
Just get the bottom hose off!
Ignore what the 'expert' told you and flush the radiator. It is a waste of time missing the opportunity to give it a flush. If you have no garden hose then use a watering can. Give the radiator as many flushes as you can manage - get the sediment out from the radiator.

Finally when you fill with water do no forget the anti-freeze. Halford sell it and it dilutes with the water. So when filling pour in the ani-freeze and then top up with water. Also mix sufficient to fill the overflow reservoir to the minimum level. When filled run the engine to hot, switch off, allow to cool and then top up the radiator with water.
Halfords have booklets attached to their counters so check the booklet for the quantity and type of anti-freeze required.

if you bothered to read what

if you bothered to read what she just wrote she said she's started to take a hose of that goes to what can be described as in intercooler, if its in the way to gain access to the bottom of the rad then....its in the way, I dont know, I dont know the terios layout.

lets start again,what gasket

lets start again, what gasket has gone??
if its the head gasket the steel seal wont help

ok i have flushed the

ok i have flushed the radiator after finding the " screw release valve" lol
not my problem is that on the steel seal it says to run the engine till it gets to 99 degrees, but as soon as i turn the engine over the fan kicks in and my terios bloody refuses to overheat and as i need the car to get to 99 degrees to work with the steel seal im at a loss of whaqt to do?

Disconnect

Disconnect the positive power lead from the fan. That will stop the fan.

99 degrees centigrade is only 1 degree from a boil over. You certain that it needs to boil? Sounds rather dangerous. A boiling engine and could easily distort the cylinder head and that will cost you a new cylinder head!
If the leak is in the radiator, then get the radiator re-cored.
PS .. an older trick is to put the white of an egg into the radiator. Then go for a run. This stops any radiator leak.

fine

although I dont know the terios, car running temperatures can vary between 90 and 110 anyway, pressurised systems prevent boil overs, ill try look it up but should be fine.
