water pump

Forum:

My old man has just had to fork out for a new water pump on his 110 Defender(I know) and it has done less miles than my Fourtrack, mine has doen 82,000+. Any idea of the life expectancy of a water pump.

god knows, as broad as is

It varies, but you can ensure

It varies, but you can ensure your cooling system is clean and running with a 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water, and you can add Bars Stop Leak as this has a lubricant for moving parts. My last Fourtrak had this in and the water pump lasted over 300,000 miles, it was sold with its original water pump still fitted.

This is worth to reading

Love love love the cheap baby carrier. The hip straps make sure weight is well-distributed, so no shoulder or back pain, as I had experienced with other carriers. The ergo is also super adaptable, from newborn in front, to toddler on hip and my preschooler on my back; the ergo carrier sale has been working for us for years. I would recommend this product to any parent.

thanks for the advice, it comes down to the old advice to look after the engine and it will repay. I was just filling up the screen wash & checking the oil and I have noticed the rad isn't looking too good so I might do that soon. Rang our local suppliers of good cheaper parts and a new one is £300 so I might source a recon one. Thanks

300 is rediculous over priced

water pump

Just sourced a good recon rad from Boston Rads (Lincs)
for £125 all in and they deliver and collect your old one, well pleased

prolonging your water pump

not sure if this will help anyone but i suffered with the pump on my f73
first one siezed and snapped the shaft so the viscus fan mated with the rad, fitted another and could hear alot of bearing noise, as a way round this i removed the viscus from the pulley so less strain on bearings, this also increased performance ( engine pick up) then purchased 2x 7inch electric fans from ebay for £30 with fitting kit to the rad and just wired onto a switch in the van, this set up has made a big difference in fuel consumptioin and since have a no problems with the pump, hpe this helps some how
