I seem to be getting the

I seem to be getting the picture now . Although I'm really glad about the price difference but there seems to be 1 more thing what is the difference between genuine from dealer for silly x amount then it from Milner for not even 25 quid a pop. What's the difference .

Get their bearing number

Get their bearing number which they all have, or their dimensions which a specialist will translate into a number, then purchase them from a local bearing specialist as they are standard metric bearings, they will have them on the shelf, and you have the option of much better quality or uprated items if you choose to pay a little more.

I get the idea being an hgv

I get the idea being an hgv mechanic for over 14years and have seen about a million bearings. But this is my baby fourtrak and trying to bring it back to its full proper state again it's gonna be hard work but still really confused about the price difference between genuine and virtually copies or aftermarket parts . There has to be some difference of course the little extra because it's genuine from Japan. Are they made different . Who knows. C'mon some1s gotta know.

dealer parts prices.

I used to fix 2cv's amongst other things. 2cv rear shoes from Belaco ( Ferodo trade brand ) were a tenner. I had a customer " Oh I only use genune Citroen parts". Open box, contents = 1 set of 4 Belaco shoes marked Belaco with the same part number. Price £30.00 Say no more .

Most car makers make the panels and weld em together but buy in most of the mechanical parts. How many times have you heard "Is it a Bosch or Lucas distributor/ Girling or Bendix calipers/ etc etc. The myth of "maufacturers" parts , they're all bought in.

This is what I know

I have recently got a set of TIMKEN wheel bearings for my fourtrak from a bearing source I use....

I work mostly on the Mk3 and 4 Hilux and they are fitted with TIMKEN bearings from factory, these are made in the USA not in China or Japan, I have never fitted anything else to a Hilux and after fitted I have never had a bearing fault within 5 years.

Inner and outer Bearings, oil seals and Races all round cost me 150 quid delivered for the Independent, might be pricey but I dont want cracked off crown wheels in my diffs.

My personal opinion is that the USA are light years ahead of anybody when it comes to bearings, Milners are good service and I have never had any problems with them but im fussy about the mechanics of my trucks and the trucks get thrown around alot.

I would rather just fit a bearing, grease it up and forget about it for a long time.

''Timken - Where you turn'' < Says it all really mate.

Hope that helps you in some way.

but if American stuff is

but if American stuff is better than jap, why are there vehicles less reliable and dont last as long?

No they are not made

No they are not made differently, its all about money.

If you get a specific bearing you can usually get several grades or qualities, and your parts most likely have not been made in Japan as most bearings are made in the UK, Sweden, Germany, or poland by the same companies producing bearings. There has been a trend of counterfeit components for popular vehicles made in China or India and sold within Europe, and they are crap.

Vehicle manufacturers use standard bearing sizes, this makes it cheaper for them, they may pay £2 per bearing to SKF for example for vehicle manufacture, they will charge £22 for the same bearing sold as a part, and this is virtually all profit. You can probably buy the same bearing for about £3.50 from a specialist, or for the highest quality less than £5 from a specialist.

I'm Convinced now cheers

I'm Convinced now cheers lads. I'm not going to the dealers . Nooooo way.

Muddy: Two manufacturers have

Muddy:

Two manufacturers have set up manufacturing in China, the quality is exactly the same as all their other factories in other countries. SKF is one, Cooper is the other, they have done this to supply the growing Chinese market with bearings, rather than import, its much cheaper for them to supply the Chinese market from Chinese factories.
