Fuel door release

Forum:

Greetings drivers,

Question: has anyone ever attempted to modify the fuel door mechanism on an 4Trak as to include a remote release mechanism instead of having to use key?
Anayone have an idea of what it would take to do so?
I assume: 1 release cable, 1 release lever, install lever somewhere near driver, route cable to rear, through inside wheel arch and to inside fuel door (drill hole) and then that's where I'm not sure...
Is it doable? What kind of mechanism is required to release door lock at pull of cable?
Hasn't anybody ever been interested in this mod? To not have to get out of vehicle and open door or hand over car keys at fuel pump?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Cheers

The issue when these vehicles

The issue when these vehicles were built were security and durability, the durability came from not having flimsy plastic catches and cables which could and would snap over time, or spring open at an inoppertune time while off roading. This is why they made them very positive locking affairs which wouldn't fly open and would provide the security from opportunist fuel thieves.
