Fixed hubs

Forum:

Has anybody else here just put fixed hubs on their Independent and thrown away the Autos...?

The reason I ask is, if they have done that and noticed any big difference in wear, milage etc....?

The auto hubs were not engaging on the fieldman I recently bought so I have been meandering around in the workshop with 3 different sets of hubs (aisin, fixed and autos) and have each set available now to go on it...

26 spline Aisin hubs.

I took the bearing retainer washer from a donor Fourtrak and lathed off the lip on it, lathed up some 3mm spacers from the base ring of an old, knackered set of aisin hubs and pressed some lugs in them. I took a set of manual aisin hubs and fitted them with the spacers and longer cone washers. Ive given the truck some stick and everything works fine.

Fixed hubs.

I have a set of fixed hubs that bolt straight on with no mods.

Daihatsu Auto hubs.

The ones on the donor fourtrak were not working either but looked intact so I left them in acetone for a couple of days, cleaned the old grub and shit out of them fully and filled them with CL (semi fluid) grease. I put them on and they work fine.

Just wanted opinions of what other Fourtrak owners would stick with?

I like the simplicity of the fixed hubs, the build of the Aisins and im not really bothered about getting out my cab so the Autos are probably bottom of my list.

Cheers
