Annoying rattle from rear of 2005 Terios

Forum:

Hi,
I hope someone might be able to offer some advice...
I have a 2005 Terios Sport with 31k miles. When driving over speed bumps or potholes there is often an annoying rattle coming from the rear of the vehicle. There is nothing loose inside the car.
The shock absorbers seem fine and driving on a smooth road is ok.
I recently changed the rear exhaust box and checking underneath there are no obvious problems although there seems a little bit of play where the offside rear panhard rod sits in the rubber bush nearest the axle.
Could this be the problem, and if so, is it an expensive fix?
If not this, what else might it be?
Like I said, on smooth roads all is well, but the rattle is very very irritating.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated..
Many thanks in advance...

You could be on the right

You could be on the right track with the exhaust.

A simple and cheapish fix is to replace the rubber exhaust hangers with Polyurethaine ones. These will be a stiffer product and also last the life of the car.

When I had a replacement aftermarket exhaust system fitted to my car then this fixed my issue.

I bought some powerflex universal mounts for mine:

Worth a go.

Thankyou for your reply....

I had the new rubber mounts fitted when I changed the exhaust and any case the rattle sounds like it is coming from the offside, the opposite side to the exhaust.
Mines a UK model, RHD, so offside is on the the right.
I'll check out the polyurethane ones anyway. Which ones fitted your Terios Unknw

Does it do it worse when it's

Does it do it worse when it's cold or for the first few miles?

If so it's probably the shock absorber. When a bit tired they can knock but only when temperature is cold, Until the oil inside warms up enough due to the friction.

If it happens all the time, then yes maybe one of the drop links

Annoying Rattle....

The rattle is there constantly not just when it's cold or for the first few miles.

Another thing, I noticed this morning the car seemed to be tilting slightly at the back, higher on the nearside than the offside.

I measured the ground clearance all round the car to the bottom of the wheelarch. It is 72.5 cms at the front and 72.5 cms rear offside but 77.5 cms rear nearside.

This must be a contributing factor to my problem but how and what to do about it Unknw

Any suggestions Unknw
