i have a 1988 2ltr petrol f80 fourtrack soft top i have been looking for a kit to rebuild my existing gearbox as i can not afford to pay for someone else to do it.i have spent ages trying to find a good 2nd hand one but being a petrol model and being as it is nearly 25 years old this has proved to be a waste of time.i love the old girl and do not want to turn it into a diesel as has been suggested to me.does anyone out there know were i can find one or does anyone happen to have or know someone who might?any help in this matter would be great.also i have some f80 spares that may be of use and could do a deal. mark

It is a Toyota box so you need to find your engine identity number.
Next you need to find Toyota 4X4's of the same vintage as yours with the same engine identity number and check the gearbox on these as they are usually the same box.
As an example my old F20 has the 12R engine fitted, this was fitted to the Toyota Hi Lux of the same vintage and the Toyota Hi ace van, and they all shared the same gearbox, the only difference was the lack of transfer case on the Hi ace van which has an extension bolted on instead.
F7X & F8X geabox rebuild
Daihatsu F7X and F8X have identical gearbox, interchangeable bolt-in. For rebulding use Toyota Blizzard (it's Fourtrack clon excl engine) part-list.
And ... There are no problems to buy the used box LH Daihatsu Rocky in an excellent condition, at the price of details for rebuild kit))
