Radiator

Forum:

hello, I own a Daihatsu Terios class 1997, i'm glad of it, as the ride is pleasant, so I had to change the radiator, but after a week I noticed that hot air isn't coming out from the blower, my electrician fixed it in seconds as he connected an air blower and it might was some cloaked dirt or something else, does the fact that the Radiator was changed as the car was parked face down a road? And when it was started some dirt might had blocked the blower from giving me hot air inside.

but the main issue is, and maybe might be nothing, that I fill the Radiator to its level and even the reservoir till the full marker, and after some driving I notice that the reservoir tank is fully up, then I return the water in the radiator again,

What might be the problem? I’ve been for at least 1 month now with this problem, but I’m being nervous and confused

NB:-TEMPRITURE IS OK,

You might have an air lock in

You might have an air lock in the cooling system after replacing the rad if you run the engine until the water pump kicks in with the rad cap off it should clear itself.

If you mean it fills the tank after a run and drops when cold I would say that is ok as the water will have heated so expanding therefore filling the header tank and when cooled contracts so water level drops

no when cold it wont go

no when cold it wont go back,as i remove extra water, then fill the radiator again,

Hi,i think yes I have an air

Hi,i think yes I have an air lock, I tried run the engine idle for about an hour but water remained still, sometimes it comes out slowly ,few days ago I filled the rad and reservoir till full mark and after a half hour run, and stooped in my location I heard bubbling, I opened the bonnet and the few water there was was bubbling and steam getting out from the cap, as I saw the body with water, I think it splashed out, then I opened the reservoir cap, gave water and it was sucked back to the rad,the rad was empty, ive been running with Gerry cans of well water also dehumidifier water, in my car as I didn't resolved this problem yet, because friends told me that this water is good, I can’t give coolant as it will disappear, the radiator shop told me that it could be from the thermostat, the mechanic told me that if the thermostat it will heat on, can someone tell me where the thermostat is? And how I can fix this problem? I’m desperate

is there any dirt clocks, can i buy some product for rad cleaning?

Thanks

You certain you are not

You certain you are not losing coolant whilst driving? If no leaks ...

1. Check if the water pump is working. When the engine is high revved the cooland level rises in the radiator - do it cold !
2. Renew the thermostat. Use a LONG REACH THERMOSTAT gesigned for diahatsu. A car thermostat will not open since its reach is too short for the engine block. NB.
The thermostat nuts are 5lb/foot. DO NOT over tighten because the bolts snap off.
Use a new thermostat gasket and use gasket goo.
Fit the new thermostat with the jiggle [hole] uppermost to allow air to escape and prevent air lock when filling the radiator.

Hi at the moment yes, when the

Hi at the moment yes, when the engine is high coolant began to rise up,i remove it with a syringe then it go up again slowly,

HeD GASKET BLOWN

I assume you say that coolant is continually rising rather than rising then falling back when the coolant pump stops.
If coolant is rising out from the radiator you have air entering the cylinder block. Most likely cause is a cylinder head gasket has failed. This happens when the engine is running. When the engine is not running the coolant level is not moving.
The gas from the cylinder is being forced under compression into the coolant system via a broken head gasket and pushes the coolant out from the radiator.
Open the coolant reservoir and sniff the inside. Does it smell like exhaust gas?

Unfortunately if it is the head gasket you have two alternatives. Either renew the gasket or expect the gasket to fail and your engine could be damaged. Usually this results in a hole being blown through the cylinder head.

well in the morning I fill up

well in the morning I fill up the rad and the reservoir till full mark, then after a run the reservoir will be reduced and sometimes it pours out steam from the cap, some days I had to open the reservoir and fill it again so it goes to the rad, when cooled and I open the rad cap I fill the rad at least by a litre, so water will disapear, there's no leagueges,

And yes I sniffed the reservoir as the rad was cold this morning and yes I smelled exhaust gas, so what’s up now? Is it the gas kit for sure?

Thanks

water missing, no visible

water missing, no visible leaks at all = head gasket gone, probably see a bit of steam out the exhaust, you can get a proper sniff test done at a garage to check for carbon in the water, this will be a definitive answer.

Full of ideas but no time to do them!!

re the steam been told that i

re the steam been told that i have something called catalytic converter, and with that smoke will not seen,my mechanic is going to make a test in the combustion, hope im exact to see, every spark plug combustion, don't know whats he is up too,but hes a honest man,and never changed thinks at random,

Cylinder head gasket blown.

I would definately tell you that the cylinder head has a problem. Exhaust gas in the reservoir indicates a leaking head gasket. It can be checked using a cylinder pressure gauge. Any garage can easily check the pressure in each cylinder and they will soon tell you if the head gasket is leaking.
Hopefully it is just an expensive cylinder head gasket. At worst the cylinder head could be cracked and that mean lots of cash. To do the job you will need a workshop manual giving the torque setting of bolts, time belt setting, distributor set up etc etc etc. Do not attept it unless you know what you are doing.
If you can't do serious diy mechanics then this is not the job for you. The engine needs to be partially dismantled to lift off the cylindetr head. The timing belt will need to be removed and refitted correctly - get it wrong and your engine will be scrap. The distributor must be refitted correctly or the engine will not fire up.

hi friend,seems like im

hi friend, seems like im getting exhausted the fact that is expensive :),well im not doing the job,my mechanic will do all this, but on Thursday hes gonna make something similar of what you said,a cylinder pressure test, hope it all will result in something difrent,im confused, thanks for now

my mechanic send me to

my mechanic send me to another mechanic, and after telling me that hes not happy with the rad cap,he tested the cylinder head by UView Gas and Diesel Combustion Leak Tester ,water changed color to light brown i think and told me that i might have a beginning of head gas kit,if it turned yellow is danger but i might work well till now, then he blow in the rad cap pipe and air felt inside the rad cap, then changed to the old rad cap and when he blowed again air was blocked,he told me to try with this cap for now,and see what happens as the cap might doing all this mess, the car ignition is good, idle good, everything is good, but water no,so he told me that i might drive well at the moment.

can someone tell me if i can find a rad cap for my radiator?my new rad is PA66-GF30

Whilst doing the job have a new timing belt fitted. They can snap after 60,000km and wreck your engine.

instead of a head gas kit

instead of a head gas kit blown, should i have a faulty thermostat?because water rises up the level in the reservoir tank,

Thermostat

If its a faulty thermostat the water boils and overflows. Then on cooling the coolant level drops and the radiator or overflow reseervoir needs topping up.
In your car the coolant rises but does not drop back. Something has replaced the cooland within the engine block .............. exhaust gas.
Get a compression test done and it will show in which cylinder there is a leak. If it shows there is no leak then try alternative solutions.
