f73 fieldman upgrade

Forum:

hi all
got the chance to get my hands on a nice 4.3ltr v6 gm engine
iv looked through the threads about engine changes and seen that people have done lexus v6 upgrade
my main question is would the gearbox and old bell houseing fit to a gm block or is it a totaly different bolt pattern, iam not worried about suspension ect at the moment as dont want to remove old engine till iam sure the v6 will couple up with few problems

any knowledge on this would be very nice
btw iv also seen the guy in the states with the v8 upgrade but dont want to go to that extreme lol

cheers

Unless you have considerable

Unless you have considerable expertise then forget it, it will cost many times than you anticipate and will take much longer than anticipated.

To begin you will need an engine adaptor to fit it to the gearbox as it won't fit, you will have to search for clutch components which will usually be separate items, and make engine mounts so you will need fabrication skills. If you remove a diesel and replace with a petrol unit you will need to change the transfer case output gears or the axles.

You will need to rewire the engine bay for a petrol motor and add any electronics and ECU the engine may need, replace the fuel pipes if it is fuel injected and fit a pump and filter, and replace the radiator as it produces more power and needs to dissipate more heat, you will have to fabricate a bespoke exhaust to match the engine and replace the original.

Without wishing to be offensive: if you are asking such a simple question then I doubt you have anywhere near the abilities to do such a conversion.

Cheers, I know exactly what

Cheers, I know exactly what you mean, iam an engineer by trade
So making mounts ect and rewireing ain't a prob
It a carb model that iv found with very basic Wireing involved
As for output from the engine it 190 horse but unsure of toque output at the mo
As you say and as I did initially think there would be a prob with gear ratios ect,
Cheers for replying so quick though
