yrv turbo into sirion

Forum:

Hi all, have just put a YRV k3-vet engine into a sirion shell, and had the key reprogrammed. The engine will crank over but not get fuel.I have wired the fuel pump up to a battery,it will fire and run you can also hear the pump operating. Is this a key thing or a missing wire?Do sirion fuel pumps prime first or do they run constantly?Any help would be appreciated as its the only thing stopping this project........

Interesting. This is the

Interesting. This is the first instance I know of in the UK of someone doing this with a k3-vet engine. I take it you have changed everything over? ECU, etc...
The only other thing I can think of is that it could be something to do with the auto box ECU, as the 2 ecus talk to each other. For example if you put the auto stick into 'reverse' and try to start the car it won't turn over as its a safety feature. Are you using the auto box on this project?

sirion turbo

have changed it all over to a manual gearbox. It has a yrv turbo ecu and the immobiliser has been "wiped" and a new key programming using the wire on the obd socket.am experimenting with keys and immobiliser boxes .live pump wire was getting 13 volts?

Manual!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Interesting, what type of manual gearbox are you using? You do know that Daihatsu matted the auto box to the k3-vet as they said the manual gearbox wouldn't handle the power? I take it you are using a different type of box than the sirions? Be net rest g to see how long the gearbox lasts if you do Wink

gearbox

using a standard sirion 5 speed manual, got 120,000 out of a rally 2 gearbox before 2/3 synchro lost its teeth!i think the rally 2 power is 108bhp and yrv turbo 127bhp?im yet to find out to be honest but gearboxes are cheap enough, wondering if you guys have heard of a toyota vitz rs heard they got a gearbox that fits k3 block?

Interesting

This is going to be even more interesting. I am under the impression the standard Sirion gearbox (Doesn't matter if it is a Rally 2/4, it's still a standard 1.3 Gearbox, as the only change made to this was to make it a quicker throw due to being shortened by Camspeed), is going to be used, why Daihatsu were not convinced it can be used with the YRV Turbo engine. The K3-VET has the same torque as the BHP, where as I think the Sirion has more BHP and less torque?
The Toyota Vitz RS is the Japanese name for the Toyota Yaris T-Sport. Not sure if this gearbox will fit.

gearbox

Yes its a completely standard box, with the modified gear stick.Even using standard sirion clutch.Have heard it wasnt fitted to the yrv turbo because it couldnt handle the power.I tend to find on a non turbo engine where the revs are higher than standard the box suffers. So the rally 2 will do 65-70mph in second gear?say the yrv turbo engine will do 80mph(but at what RPM)?yeah sounds like the box is up for some hell, launches of the line convincingly enough.but will find out!If it does eat gearboxes in the long run got any other ideas?

Going to be on the ramps a lot perhaps

Yes the YRV Turbo hits up to a max of 80MPH in 2nd gear on the autobox using the Steershift function (Obviously proven on a private track). The RPM on the K3-VET is only efficient around 6500RPM due to the turbo.
Can assure you that this car as a lot of grunt from standstill so you maybe putting 1st gear into a lot of strain because of this. If driven sensibly then you may be okay.
As for Manual gearboxes then the closest I can think of is a gearbox off a Toyota Starlet Turbo/Glanza V as the YRV Turbo is very close to being a Starlet MArk 3 in many ways. But weather the clutch/Fly Wheel etc.. will fit is again an unknown.

ongoing development

im more worried about the revs,as the k3-vet revs lower should take strain of the box?im thinking 7,500rpm gear changes kills that box changing to third (naturally aspirated). Not sure how it will keep up under load though with speed?its 30% increase however.have found a straight cut box and upgraded diff, clutch etc but rather expensive!!have looked at a glanza box and engine but they do look rather different.so if it will pull 80mph in second, how fast will this thing go?

7,500 rpm = less power

The 7500 RPM figure you are looking at is only good for a normally aspirated engine. The turbo on the K3-VET is only good to up-to 6500 RPM, it's the same for many Turbo cars. For example my Subaru Impreza STi with 300 BHP is only good for up to 6500 RPM as well with a bigger VF34 Turbo. IF you want to go more RPM then you are looking at a slightly bigger turbo and ECU remap to do so.
On the YRV Turbo (UK Model) there are shift lights retro fitted where the green light kicks in around 6000 RPM and the red kicks in at 6500 RPM.

been planning this for years.....

Just planning on keeping the engine standard, found naturally asspirated K3 engines to highly strung. This was the main point of the turbo i can get 130bhp from N/A tune but at really high revs(miss a gear and eat the gearbox or valves)whereas the turbo has same power but at much less revs...wonder if the rev counter will be right?

The rev counter should be

The rev counter should be fine. I have Sirion F-speed clocks in my YRV turbo. You do also realise that the torque comes in early anyway? Around 1900rpm and you have 127 NM of torque Smile

immobiliser issue update

So no decision on the intercooler etc just yet,but found something interesting regarding the fuel pump not running.I plug the standard ecu back on and the pump primes, ive also tried another standard ecu and the pump primed!Im presumoing the immobiliser is not the issue??Could do with a yrv turbo wiring diagram and a sirion wiring diagram if anyone has one?
