2006 Charade front brakes

Forum:

I need to change my pads and disks, and I'm just wondering if it is safe to push back the pistons? (could this cause damage to the ABS system?)

I guess the safest way would be to open the bleed valves, but I'd prefer to avoid bleeding the system if I can, as I'm not sure if that might also be a bit more complicated with an ABS system?

Also - I wonder if anyone would know if it is possible to adjust or reduce the assistance given by the electrical power steering?

I'm a driving instructor, and very light PAS can be a bit of a curse when learners are finding it difficult to steer! I'd love to be able to just turn it off, on occasion, but have no idea if just removing the power to the motor would cause damage to the system...

BTW I recently bought an automatic Charade, and liked it so much I've just bought a manual one. The more I drive them the more I like them.

I drove the manual from Southend to Cambridge at motor-way speeds and using aircon for most of the way, and still got 65 mpg!

many thanks!
