Sirion corrosion problems???

Forum:

Hi ive got a Y reg automatic Sirion (my second, second-hand one of these great little cars) and I put it in for its MOT today. Just got a call from the garage saying that its failed on 'sill corrosion' and needs to be welded (which they don't do so they're passing me off to another garage) - this is what happened to my last Sirion and it started to cost hundreds each time to repair.
Is this a common problem for the Sirions - I cant help thinking that because im a young female driver that the garage is sometimes taking me for a ride??
Can anyone tell me the average price that these repairs should actually cost??
Any help would be great
Thanks

Yup, they do like to rot.

Yup, they do like to rot. Y-reg is 14 years or so old now though, so not exactly brand new. If it makes you feel better, many other modern-ish cars seem to rot quickly too!

Mine (1998) had a lot of welding for its last MOT, but thankfully while with the previous owner. Rear arches are sill a bit of a mess.

Bodywork is never cheap so a bill in the hundreds is sadly pretty inevitable if a lot of work is needed.
