Hi all bought my self a cheap winter truck a 1993 sporty elxi. I have a few question/issues.
1. Smells of fuel at rear(quick look and the tank is wet)
2. Have 2 exhaust leaks slight one in engine bay and the joint from front pipe to cat(should there be a gasket)
3.does the 3 stage damper actually do anything I hear it doing something when I switch settings but feels the same to me.
4.has vitara wide wheels on feels wobbly when on normal roads an pulls to the left.
5.how do I check water levels in rad?
Sorry for probably stupid questions but I'm a noon to mechanics but will give anything a go.
Simple checks.
1. Tank will be leaking at the tanks central horizontal seam, found below the rear door.
2. Should be a gasket.
3. Three stage damper is useless. If replacing use normal shocks.
4. Could be steering box issue, dodgy ball joint, or tracking needs adjusting. Check the tires match and inflated.
5. Check the overflow reservoir level : not always accurate if the coolant is leaking into the engine block. Best remove the rad cap when engine is cold and check the rad is full. At same time coolant reservoir topped to the min mark.

Thanks macefor your reply iv sorted the gasket from cat in didn't have one so that's sorted.will leave shocks they're a little hard but its only for winter. Fuel tanks worrying tho I had a price of £350 and there's none in UK. Can they be repaired? Don't anyone do a plastic copy?where's cheap for parts?

burning smell.

I'll have a good look through other links. Tested the 4wd system today 1st time only. For 2 mins down the street when pulled up on my drive was getting a burning smell. Any ideas? Shat myself thought my back end was on fire due to tank leak ha.
Diff
Check there is oil in the diff. The sportrak is rear wheel drive so when you go into four wheel drive it engages the front diff. Also auto locking hubs can cause issues
