Can anybody help

I have a y reg terios that needs the thermostat changing. It is the K3 engine with a timing chain, not a belt.

My workshop manual says the thermostat is on the left side by the alternator but I cannot see it there, there is a place right at the back of the engine which looks like a thermostat housing but seems near impossible to get to as it is right against the bulk head.

Anyone been in a similar situation
