Rally 2 O2 sensor and tyres.

Forum:

Has anyone else found that the k3-ve eats O2 sensors? I had a new one fitted 6 months ago and the engine management light has just come on again. The garage cleared it for me and said they'd get a replacement under warranty if the light came back on, but said this engine seems to eat them!
Any recommendation on tyres? I have a full set of Hankook Optimo K415 but the grip is dreadful in the wet, and they squeal a lot in the dry - higher pressures stop the squeal but take away the feel and it feels like you're driving on ice. They feel soft but have done 20,000 miles now, yet still have loads of tread. Are all these ratings for new tyres accurate, I need more grip!

What Bob says on the O2s

Yeah the engine shouldn't eat the O2s unless you have bought the wrong ones? We have had a few members on here ask the question on what replacement O2s to buy and I think if you have a search and look at the technical diagrams you should see which ones you need for both the top and bottom sensors. If not BobF might be able to fill in the blanks here for you Wink
There was once a person on here who thought they bought the correct sensor but turned out it was meant for the 1.0 litre EJ-VE engine and not the 1.3 K3-VE. I on the other hand went for the expensive route and bought some NTK/NGK branded O2s for my K3-VET YRV Turbo engine. Denso items are the originals for our cars.

As for tyres. This is a horses for courses territory I'm afraid. Ones to avoid in my opinion: Dunlop Sports (Lethal! in dry and wet), Bridgestones (Tramline to the road surface). Ones to consider/recommend: Uniroyal RallyE 550 and Rainsport (Excellent grip in the dry and wet but are soft and will wear out quicker), Toyo Proxes 4 (Quiet on the road (Whisper quiet), Good in the dry but not confident for the wet) I currently run these on my YRV Turbo in 17" and on 195/40. Others to consider are Goodyear GS3's if you can get them in the size you need. Ran these on my Subaru Impreza STi and are rated well but again have soft side walls. Can't say the same for Pirelli P-Zeros, very noisy and not great grip, again ran on my Subaru STi when I changed up to 18" Alloys with them already fitted, before I got rid for the Diesel I drive now. Thanks for the tips, I

Thanks for the tips, I remembered you mentioning Vredestiens Bob, but couldn't remember if that was just your winter ones. Will definitely get tyres after Le Mans (if I've got any money left!), just have to decide which ones. The good thing about Daihatsus is that they're so light that even soft/grippy tyres last longer than on most cars.
The garage got the sensor for a Sirion 1.3 but I don't know the make. They are trustworthy (after all, it's my brother!) and said they'd replace it under warranty if it lights up again. Unfortunately, they got it before I could give them Bob's recommendation of sparkplugs.co.uk and it cost double!
