Forum:

Hi guys, I bought a second hand car but the owner did say it had an engine light. I've ordered one from Amazon. It's the Denso DOX 0109. I had to take off the wiring from the old and put them on the new one. As suggested on the instructions. 4 wires came off the old one. White blue and two black ones. The new had the same colour wires and I put them together. I hope the two black ones go in either of the other black ones. Saw on YouTube that the two black ones are for the heater circuit and shouldn't matter which one goes to which one. I've put the sensor back on the car and still get the same error. Do you think I replaced the wrong sensor? It's the below the engine on the right hand side on the exhaust.

What does the obd-II reader tell you?

The error code could mean its bank 1 sensor 1. You have changed bank 2 sensor 2. It's always worth swapping both as they both will go at some point. So your best trying to replace the one in the engine bay, the one before the manifold.
Also try an ecu reset by taking the negative connector off the battery for over an hour and reconnecting and see if the error re-occurs.

Hi, Yes, I think I might have

Hi, Yes, I think I might have replaced the wrong sensor. Only if I had a repair manual.
Also, one other thing I did wrong was in the wiring. I attached the wires in the Butt connector but did not crimp/crush them before applying heat. So that sensor needs to come out and corrected.
I carried out was an Ohms test on the one I took off. I did a resistance test and showed about 13-14 Ohms of resistance on the heater circuit (two Black wires). According to NGK website, if the sensor shows a resistance above 30 Ohms it should be replaced. These sensor cost between £50-65 so I would like to get every bit out of it if possible. Smile
Someone told me that this car has two sensor one before the cat and one after. I can't seem to locate the cat. Is it just ender the engine? I had a look at the exhaust area and wasn't able to see one.
Will post a picture of my findings Smile

Pics of the sensor I took off

I think I took off the wrong sensor:

Condition looks pretty good IMHO:

Ohms test

Ok, I've taken out the new sensor to do a test with a multimeter. The test shows 15.7 Ohms of resistance. This is a new one bought from Amazon for £47. It's the Denso DOX 0109.
Could this be a dodgy sensor they sent me? I think the reading for good sensor should be between 4-5 Ohms?

If you do a search on this forum.

Hi, forum member and site moderator BobF has discussed this many a time on here. And believe has mentioned the O2/Lambdas you need for this engine.
Normally there are 2 O2/Lambdas (but it's has been known before 2001 that Japanese models had one but this was usually found before the Manifold, and the 2nd one was added after (on the exhaust) because of emission levels for other countries). I believe a good place to start is www.spakplugs.co.uk as this is where you can buy replacement O2/Lambdas at a good cheap price.

EDITED to Add:

Just been on to the www.sparkplugs.co.uk and the DOX-109 is for the 1 litre EJ-VE engine and for the front. So you have bought the wrong one for your engine. The correct ones for the 1.3 Litre K3-VE2; Front =DOX-0236; Rear (Exhaust) = DOX-0236.

Denso seems to have done the trick

Ok,
So I finally got a mechanic to put my sensor in. It was the Denso DOX 0109. They had to take the old one out and cut of the connector from it. They then welded the new sensors wires to the old connector and woala! All good so far.
Any questions, please fell free to ask.
