Potential new Fourtrak owner

Forum:

Hi

Apologies if this should be posted elsewhere.

Anywho, I'm on the look-out for a replacement vehicle, and have been considering a Fourtrak. I was hoping you good people could answer a couple of questions for me.

Firstly, the London Emmission Zone (LEZ) - are Fourtraks compliant? I put some reg numbers in to the LEZ checker - circa '98 models came up as exempt, but older ones came up as non-compliant. Is there a cut-off date after which they can be driven in the LEZ? Or is the checker giving me duff information?

Secondly - what are they like in terms of leg room for the driver? I'm quite tall, but have not yet had the opportunity to sit in one.

Thirdly - are the front grills interchangeable? I've seen pics of ones with chrome grills, that in my opinion look nicest. Will one of those fit on to any year?

Lastly, is any particular model best for motorway? I understand that's not the environment that these are intended for, but I will need to go one the m-way sometimes. Is e.g. the turbo, or non-turbo for m-way driving?

Many thanks, I've been having a good read of the various threads, and look forward to reading more.

All the best.

Not sure which are LEZ

Not sure which are LEZ compliant.

Plenty of leg and head room in them, they are working vehicles and made to accommodate all sizes.

Yes, most parts are interchangeable with a little work and the chrome grills aren't something I would recommend as they get chipped and marked easily.

Independent model best for motorway work, these are all turbo as are most of them, as for motorway driving they will cruise all day at 80 MPH but the ride and handling is crap and 70 MPH is much quieter and uses much less fuel.

Hi

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

Further noddy questions please. Were all the later LWB versions 7-seater? Or were any LWB ones sold as 5-seaters?

Also, do only the LWB have the slide-open rear window? Depending on the angle of the pics, it's sometimes hard to judge what I'm looking at. Does a non-opening rear window always denote a SWB?

I want/need a rear seat (so that rules out the commercial versions), but I doubt we'd ever use the 2 jump seats in the boot.

Thanks

Basically you're asking how

Basically you're asking how long is a piece of string, most had sliding windows but as most backs are interchangeable you may find some with and some without.

Personally I would avoid the sliding windows as they corrode terribly and most people leave them or replace with fixed rear windows.

If you opt for a commercial version it literally is as simple as buying a set of rear seats and bolting them in, the only difference between a commercial and passenger model is they omitted the rear seats, carpets, and seat belts on commercials and as they all bolt in its a simple parts bolt in job.
